The general ombudsmen’s offices of the public defenders have a strong ally in the transparency of their activities to demonstrate to society their fundamental role in guaranteeing access to justice, considering the exercise of their functions of social control and participation.

Ideally, ombudsmen’s offices should have one or more pages on their website, where they can provide institutional information and information about their work. This guide indicates the minimum requirements to be observed in this digital space – a contribution that can be useful despite the unfavorable context in the defender’s offices for the ombudsmen to make it a reality, revealed by a diagnosis by Transparência Brasil.

The document also presents a set of indicators whose inclusion in ombudsmen’s activity reports, an essential accountability tool required by Complementary Law 80/1994 (art. 105-C, III), is welcome in order to improve ombudsmen’s accountability.
