The uncertainty generated by doubts about the interaction between the Access to Information Law (LAI) and the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) can lead to a reduction in public transparency. This guide from Transparência Brasil aims to help civil servants and managers decide whether or not to disclose personal information produced and stored by the government.

The material can also be used by individuals and organizations to check whether any denial of access to public information or withdrawal of data on the grounds of protection of personal data is reasonable, or at least has been assessed in minimal detail.

The practices presented here are adaptations of national and international references that help to balance three fundamental rights: access to information, privacy and the protection of personal data.
